The Village of Otford has two wonderful Millenium monuments. There is the scale model of the Solar System WM4P49 and this mosaic depicting the history of the village of Otford.
The Mosaic starts with pre-history (a Pterodactyl), then moves on to a man making flint tools, the Bronze Age, the arrival of the Romans (there is a Roman villa nearby), Anglo-Saxons, The Battle of Otford (776), Thomas Becket (there is a Holy Well named after him in the village), the origins of Cricket, the arrival of Steam, modern times and ends with a mother picking an apple and handing it to a child. See waymark WM4P3Y for more information.
In the border are dates and representative objects (a skull for the Black Death, up to a mobile phone and a DNA helix.
The mosaic is by the artist Oliver Budd.
