Sayler Makeever Cemetery, also known as Old Settlers Cemetery, is the resting place for pioneers who settled and developed the area since the early 1800's. As the oldest cemetery in Jasper County, Sayler Makeever hosts several well-known names and prominent individuals who were key to Rensselaer history.

John Doe joined them in 1986 after being found in the brush alongside I-65. His estimated age at the time of death was 25 to 26 years old. The marker approximates a month and year for his death.
