Downtown Manitou Springs has a number of these springs, open for public use. Very high mineral content makes the raw water taste like "Alka-Seltzer". When mixed with Kool-Aid, it tastes like a flavored carbonated soda. Tourists may turn up their nose at the taste now, but in the late 1800s, visitors came to the area for the health benefits of the water.
