Pisgah was the mountain from which God allowed Moses to see into the Promised Land, never to enter it; Hor was the mountain selected by God for the death of Aaron. Both instances were in response to the men having disobeyed God at the waters of Meribah (Exodus 17).

At one time, there were several peaks in Vermont named Pisgah, including the one now known as Killington. Apparently, common sense prevailed, and we're down to just this one. See also Lake Willoughby Natural Area.

Mount Pisgah (2,751') is the prominence rising from the left/east side of the lake. Hor (2,048') is the long flattish prominence to the right/west (see second gallery image).

Photo is taken from a public beach at the north end of the lake. State Route 5A skirts the eastern shore. Shoreline at southern end is private campground.
