This pole was placed in 1986. The Cold War was in everyone's minds and this inspiration for this location was chosen by the Coalition for Nuclear Disarmament, now know as the Princeton-based Coalition for Peace Action (CFPA). Then, Borough Mayor Barbara Sigmund played a major role in get the message out locally and encourage the placement of the Peace Pole in Monument Park.
"May Peace Prevail on Earth" is written in four languages, each side of the column contains a translation in English, Japanese, Spanish, and Russian. The languages chosen were intended to emphasize peace efforts of the nuclear powers at the time.
In the late 90's Monument Park was re-work and updated and the pole was encased in Plexiglas and surrounded by a new planting.
CFPA holds its annual "Peace is Patriotic" event there along with other such events.
The park can be found on the corner of Rt 27 and Rt 206. Parking is available in the Borough Hall parking lot on One Monument Drive.
