ERECTED TO GOD

and dedicated to those who gave
their lives in service to our

To those Soldiers and Marines
who died on the battle fields,
To those Seamen who went down
with their ships at sea, To those
Airmen who fought and died so
valiantly. We salute you.

HARRY A. ANDERSON
MEMORIAL PARK

U.S. Army 1917 - 1919
Born 1894 - Died 1989.
[Note: The crosses each bear the campaign and a number.
Not sure of the significants of the numbers on the crosses.
I assume it is the number of participants from the county.
This is a small county. Surely it could not be the number lost.]

WW I: a simple cross.
WW II: 78,000
Korea: 8,000
Vietnam: 2,500.

Type of Memorial: Non-Specific Memorial

In Honor Of: Those Who Gave Their Lives In Service to Our Country.

Marker Text:
see above.

Date of dedication: 1973

Who Put it Here?: This Park donated By Wayne & Virginia Huse

Description of Memorial:
Traffic triangle bordered by Missouri Highway (MO-19) and E. Ely St. & S. East St. on the eastern edge of town. In a line across the park are four crosses and a flag pole then the light colored birck monument with two bronze plaques. The upper is for the memorial of those who gave their lives, the bottom is to dedicate the park to a specific veteran, Harry Anderson. You can see my old motorcycle, the Marine Corps Bike, in the background. I was running from New London the county seat, headed home. I seem to find the most intriguing item on my runs for home. The large numbers on the crosses still haunt me. It bothers me, what they stand for.
