The original building was constructed in 1942 with funds bequeathed by Mrs. Etta Burnham; an addition in 1989 nearly quadrupled the library's size. It is a department of the town, supported primarily by municipal taxes, supplemented by the Burnham Trust, grants, and gifts from Friends of the Burnham Library.
The collection of over 54,000 items includes books, audiobooks, music CDs, videocassettes and DVDs. The library has subscriptions to over 100 periodicals.
Any Vermont resident may register for free borrowing privileges.
