San Benito County south of Hollister has a long ranching heritage. This gate looks like part of a western set for a Hollywood cowboy movie, but the ranch behind it is real and the owners are just ordinary folks. The only thing extraordinary is the big trees cut to be gateposts - they are too straight to be native oak, and are almost certainly eucalyptus (which began to be widely planted in CA in the mid 1900's for timber).
