At this point at the Pacific Crest Trail just about everywhere is an incredible view. For the "BIG" view people usually just go to slate peak. You can drive most of the way there and at the top is a lookout tower. Tamarack Peak is entirely different. There isn't even a trail going up to the top. The only way to get to the top is to take the south ridge to the summit or climb a VERY steep hill to the East. I recommend you to take the south ridge up and the east hill down. When we went up it took us about four hours. It was a hard hike up but it was worth it at the top. The views were amazing! We could see everywhere 360°. We took panoramas, soaked in the view, and rested. Our friend eheyman who led the expedition hid a cache called
Tamarack Peak. I recommend that you read it's page before attempting to go up here.
Be warned that this is not something to attempt during a day hike unless you leave at around seven in the morning and get to the base of the mountain by nine. It is a long and hard hike up. Be prepared with water, food, an emergency kit, and most of all bring a camera!
