Milton has a long agricultural history, and while Toronto's suburbia is knocking on the doorstep, Milton (and North Halton) are still a predominantly rural setting. Just a few kilometers away from here is the Halton Region Museum and the Ontario Steam Heritage Museum is in nearby Puslinch. The Steam Heritage Museum has an annual STEAM-ERA event at the nearby Milton Fairgrounds, usually on the Labour Day weekend.
This tractor is on display in front of the railway station that has been converted into Milton's Visitor Information Centre. You can walk right up to this one, touch it and stand on the platform that one would have controlled it from.
The tractor indicates it was manufactured by "The Geo. White and Sons Company Limited" from London, Ontario. This company was established in 1856 according to the City of London website.
Parking is at the Visitor Information Centre, access off Chris Hadfield Way.
Here is a link to the history of the Geo White Company with a photo of a "Steam Traction Engine" similar to this one: (
