Brotherilkeld Farm is a working hill farm, rearing Herdwick sheep on open fellside. The access track from 'phone kiosk (visit link) is a public footpath. The back drop are the Scafell fells of upper Eskdale. Among the highest in England.
According to National Archive. The National Trust bought the farm around 1955. (visit link)
Before the dissolution of the monasteries, the monks of Furness Abbey (visit link) owned the farm and kept sheep here, prior to 1500's.
