In the Center of the courthouse lawn, Main St. side, you will find a a 55 foot monument. As you ascend the stairs to this massive memorial (Civil War) you will see two smaller stones. One to the left and one to the right. The one on the right is a history of Posey County and of Mount Vernon. The one on the left, is this memorial. It honors the men buried in this county that fought for our originals freedoms. Freedoms we continually must fight for.
