Lt Medcalf, and a force of 32 men comprised of Kent Militia, Middlesex Militia, and Provincial Dragoons, rode 30 miles through the night from Rondeau Bay to surprise a force of 39 American soldiers who had an outpost at the farm of Thomas McCrae, arriving before daybreak on December 15, 1813.
During the skirmish, 3 American soldiers were wounded, and one was killed. The rest surrendered and were taken as prisoners to Port Dover.
