In 1971 the Crestwood Board of Aldermen had great forethought to realize that an old abandoned quarry adjacent to a small eight-acre park was a treasure to preserve. That quarry is now part of the eighty-five acre Whitecliff Park, the largest of Crestwood's seven parks. The City has been very careful to preserve 40 wooded acres of the park to provide a passive oasis in the midst of a bustling community of both neighborhoods and thriving retail areas. The wooded area of the park includes walking trails that lead around the quarry and to various parts of the park.
The park active area includes the Crestwood Community Center, a 22,000 square foot center that includes a gymnasium, fitness room with both Pre-Cor cardiovascular equipment and Cybex strength equipment, meeting rooms, dance gym, two racquetball courts and houses the administrative offices of the parks and recreation department. The community center offers a wide of recreation programs and special events including adult leagues, dance and gymnastics classes, camps for children ages 3-15, special interest programs, senior clubs and a variety of fitness classes beginning at 6 a.m. for all levels of abilities. A variety of holiday and seasonal special events are also offered throughout the year for all ages.
Rooms in the community center can be rented for wedding receptions, parties, seminars and sports events and practices. Pavilions, picnic sites, sports fields, sand volley ball, racquetball and tennis courts can also be reserved by calling the parks and recreation department.
Also found in Whitecliff Park is the new Crestwood Aquatic Center, multi-purpose court, four tennis courts, tennis pavilion, playground and pavilion overlooking the aquatic center all completed during the summer of 2002. These facilities are in addition to an existing pavilion, deck/picnic area and a softball field.
The park setting was carefully incorporated into the aquatic center with extensive landscaping and the natural area of Whitecliff Park serving as a picturesque backdrop. The aquatic center includes a 10 lane 25 yard by 25 meter multi-purpose lap pool, lily pad challenge area, giant slide, zero depth beach entry area, lazy river with inner tubes and a two level children's play pool with water falls, slides and other play features. Currently the aquatic center is limited to residents of Crestwood, their guest and a limited number of sponsored non-resident users. A variety of swim lessons, water fitness programs and a swim and dive team is also available. The aquatic center is also available for private rentals for both parties and swim meets.
In addition to programs at the community center and aquatic center, outdoor programs are also offered in Whitecliff Park including fishing events at the quarry, Family Wilderness Adventures and special nature hikes can be arranged for scout troops, school groups and groups of special interest.

Do you have a GPSr (Global Positioning System Receiver) and know about the sport/hobby of Geocaching using this hi-tech tool? Geocaching consists of locating a small Tupperware type container hidden (usually in the woods) after the coordinates have been posted on the internet. These are hidden throughout the world and normally consist of a logbook, pencil, and some trinkets to trade. Once the container is found, a note is written in the logbook, a trinket may or may not be traded, and the container left in the same location for the next finder. The City of Crestwood was the first city sponsored and maintained geocache in Missouri and the 2nd in the country. The cache is located in Whitecliff Park and details for finding the cache can be found below:
