Sterling Lake can be found along the Sterling Lake Loop at Sterling Forest State Park in NY. Maps can be found at the visitor center, which is just downhill from where you will be parking.
The highlight, for me at least, of Sterling Lake Loop is the lake itself. But you will also be passing the ruins of an old church and an old furnace. The trail also provides you with great views of the lake as you walk along it's western bank.
This is a relatively easy four mile hike. But there are numerous other more strenuos trails/hikes at this park if you like. Check the display in the visitor center.
