VFW Post 5077 was started in November 1945.
It has met at many locations and is currently located at 8500 Veterans Memorial Parkway in O'Fallon.

The members of the Post selected the name of Hinkel-Kleeschulte-Westhoff as the name of the organization. Members selected this name to honor Private First Class Peter Westhoff, the first Soldier killed in action from the area during World War I; as well as Private First Class Raymond Hinkel and Corporal Clemens A. Kleeschulte, who were the first area Soldiers killed in action in World War II.

Plaque reads: AH1G Cobra Gunship This aircraft was in combat from 1969 Sept 1972 when it was shot down in Vietnam. This aircraft is dedicated in memory of all helicopter pilots and crew members who fought in all conflicts through the years.
