The 136 foot-long Aux Sable Creek Aqueduct was originally built in 1848 as an overpass for the Illinois and Michigan Canal. Over time, the aqueduct has been rebuilt using modern materials. It still retains water for kayakers and canoeist, but they have to portage around Lock #8, which is permanently closed.
