The Ashland Plantation. Also known as Belle Helene. Now owned
by the Shell Oil Company. Plantation home is boarded up on 3 sides
and fenced in. NO ADMITTANCE. According to sign, Shell Oil
Company is "preserving" the home and grounds. IN MY OPINION
Looks the same
as it has for 15 years, except the grass is cut and the weeds
and overgrowth has been removed and outside painted.
It is a waste.
I have been told that the Stairway scenes from the
movie "Gone With The Wind" were patterened after the stairways in
this plantation house.
