This nautical flagpole is located outside the Samson military museum as this used to be the Samson Naval Base and later the Samson Air force Training center during World War II and the Korean Conflicts. The base was turned over to the State of New York for use as a state park, however, the brig was saved and is now a military museum, showcasing the history of the base and how important a role it played in the local history of the area.
