Who Put it Here?: American Legion Post # 281, Patterson Cemetery Association, Wayne Co. Historical Society.

Description of Memorial:
Brick wall platform upon which rest a marble flat stone. This side is the veterans memorial, the other side is a Civil War Memorial. Just over to right of the memorial (see photo) and between it and the mobile home in the background hundred of both Union and Confederate soldiers are buried, who's names are known only unto God. As you face the memorial, about 100 yards to the right use to stand Fort benton, and Major Civil War post. Because it was here on a major road through the area, two fierce battles were fought where this monument stands.
