The Beaverton Veterans Memorial is the centerpiece of the Memorial Park in Beaverton, Oregon. It is quite large and very interesting. The monument is a large, two sided inscribed monument. Around the base and on four low walls surrounding the monument, there are engraved bricks with names of servicemen whom died in service of our country. Although the monument is in Beaverton, the inscription states that it is in honor to all serviemen.
One of the four low walls contains names of Japanese American servicemen. The inscription reads "WE JAPANESE AMERICANS PROUDLY SERVED IN THE U.S. ARMED FORCES WITH HONOR AND LOYALTY."
The memorial park where this memorial is located is a very nice and peaceful park. There was plenty or parking available on the street right next to the park. I heard once that someone on Memorial day would go from marker to marker saying the name of the serviceman in honor because he figured that it had been a long time since someone had said the name aloud. What a great way to honor our Veterans.
