The Old Cadet Chapel was built beginning in 1836. The stone chapel is a fine example of Classic Revival Style. It contains elements of both Greek and Roman design; the building is a modified Roman basilica and its portico is Greek Doric in design. The chapel was originally located on the south edge of the plain. When the "new" cadet chapel was built in 1910 this chapel was scheduled for demolition however the outcry from former graduates caused that decision to be changed. The Old Cadet Chapel was carefully dismantled and moved to the West Point Cemetery where it is used for funeral services.
