Contradictory Vibrations (2002)
by Marita Dingus
Leather and iron, two essential elements of the west, of fashion, of art. No doubt some will have a retail-inspired reaction, along the lines of "Where can I buy something like that?"
The smaller pieces are decorative, and possibly functional. Could they work as belt buckles, jewelry, or other apparel? The origin of the material is a bit unclear. Leather is sourced from animals, of course, but which animals and where were they located? Questions, questions. Good art inspires thinking, questions, and imagined answers. The detail is romantic and inspired. As a society, we embrace leather and iron, even in very simple forms. As the two combine to form art, the longing and appreciation is only enhanced by the artist.
