Monument similar to what one would find in a cemetery, identifying the geographic center of the Town of Enosburgh, Vermont.
This tablet marks the center of the town of Enosburg
Chartered 1780
Erected by the Four Leaf Clover 4-H Club of Enosburg
1955
Note that I spell it "Enosburgh" while the marker uses "Enosburg." Years ago, the US Postal Service, in its heavy-handed wisdom, forced a number of communities in this country to "standardize" their spellings (they had to drop the "h" from "-burgh," "-borough" became "-boro," etc.). Like so many other towns, Enosburgh went along with it (they had no choice: it was the feds, y'know), but has since reverted to its original spelling, as have others in the state.
A nearby crossroads is identified on maps as Enosburg Center. That, too, is the work of the Postal Service.
The barn in the background is also waymarked.
