"The Wadsworth" castle is built on the spot of the former Wadsworth family home (George Washington slept there!).
Daniel Wadsworth (1771-1848), the son of extremely successful merchant, Jeremiah Wadsworth, had traveled through Europe and wanted to share the beauty of art with the general public. A novel idea for the mid nineteenth century.
The museum is home to approximately 50,000 objects. It hosts many exhibitions and events both artistic and social. I've been to a "Festival of Trees," room after room full of decorated Christmas trees.
