This is a peculiar sculpture--three triangular steel objects located in a gravel circle outside of Stein Hall. There is a signature on the bottom corner of the one that's closest to Pleasant Avenue SE.

Gary Slater's minimalist sculpture and fountains are rendered in steel, copper, stainless steel, and bronze. Inspired by the dramatic landscape of the Southwest, the pieces often combine metals, materials, and finishes in ways that ingeniously complement the minimalist, fluid forms of each composition. The artist's versatility and prodigiousness lend themselves to a widely diverging range of sculptural solutions. He has created large (28-feet) waterfeatures, small (24-inches) pedestal sculptures, metallic wall reliefs, "multiple original" sculptures, and edition bronzes. Though the majority of Slater's work ranges between thirty-six tand ninety-six inches in height, he frequently works with architects and clients to create site-specific monumental sculpture on commission. Slater earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the University of Minnnesota (1970) and a Master of Fine Arts Degree from Arizona State University (1971). He has created over 500 sculptures, which are avidly collected by corporate, public, and private collectors throughout the United States and the world.
