Located above the entrance of the Garfield Community Center, Kuba Grille is a collaborative work created by Mark Calderon and Beliz Brother. Made out of aluminum, the design of this piece was inspired by the textiles made by the Kuba people of Zaire. The textiles made by the Kuba people were decorated in a number of ways, including embroidery, embroidered pile and appliqué. Unless you are fortunate enough to see the real thing, come and visit a beautiful interpretation of these textiles at the community center.
