Imposing and regal, Oshun Throne is located in the Garfield Community Center. The community’s children participated in the creation of Oshun Throne by providing the juice can lids, wood blocks and metal objects that were used in its construction. This piece is another inspired work by Marita Dingus and fully captures the magnificence of Oshun, the River Goddess. According to Nigerian mythology, Oshun and her mate, the Thunder God Shango, had human children whose descendants still live along the river. You can honor the goddess Oshun by attending the annual Ibo-Osun ceremony; but if you can’t make it to Nigeria for that, please take the time to visit her at the Garfield Community Center.
