In the opening scenes of "The Shawshank Redemption," we see Tim Robbins character, Andy Dufresne flashing back to the night that he caught his wife cheating. Dufresne is in court facing charges of murder.
The cabin outside which Dufresne is sitting in his car, drinking, and handling a revolver is Pugh Cabin. The main setting of the movie was filmed in nearby Mansfield, Ohio. They liked the location of Pugh Cabin and so used it for the opening scenes.
Pugh cabin is open to the public, although to get inside, one would need to reserve the cabin. There is a hiking trail which starts right next to the cabin. In addition the stone wall and oak tree where Dufresne hides his "cache" for Red is near here as well. The wall was removed, and the tree is on private property, but it can be seen from Pleasant Valley Road.
