Deacon Nathaniel Harmon had recorded service in defense of the northern frontier. He served at various times under Capt. John Stark and also under Capt. Parmalee in a Company of Rangers.

Nathaniel and all of his brothers fought at Bennington. Their family farm was near the battlefield and it's said that his father helped bury the dead.
