Placed on Imperial Dam to warn boaters both up and down stream of large releases of water. Also used to notify residence of flooding situations. They would open the dam gates to clear material such as trees, tules and other debris from the gates. When the gates open, if your boat is not tied securely, down and through the dam it goes. The siren is operated by the control house situated on a hill overlooking the dam.
