"The Miser" (1997, bronze, by Tom Otterness) is located outside the Grand Hyatt Seattle, between 8th & 7th on Pine Street. The statue has been voted "The Worst Statue in Seattle." The problem with the piece is its location. The space was designed for Willem de Kooning's "Reclining Figure" (1969-1982, original bronze). The owner of the block replaced the de Kooning with Otterness's statue. The poor location along with the subject matter (the rich get richer, etc.) at one of the most expensive hotels in the city makes this the worst statue in the city.
