1st Lt. Jerry Hunter was the first casualty of the Vietnam War from Douglasville, Ga. He piloted a plane like this one. He was shot down in Laos May 25, 1966. Some of the details from the incident are unclear but this seems to be the best available information.
On 25 May, Lt Gerry Hunter was downed by A/W fire as he was pulling out of a dive bomb pass. He was attacking a truck park in a heavily wooded area near Ban Ban. Although the FAC directing the strike reported seeing a good parachute, and hearing a beeper, Lt Hunter was dead when rescue forces reached him.
This aircraft is well maintained as an exhibit and the paint is good with some of the interesting decals and paint on it.
