The article reads:
The Blood Alliance will open its first donor center in a hospital Tuesday at Mayo Clinic Jacksonville.
Northeast Florida's and Southeast Georgia's only blood donation organization intends to collect donated blood from staff at Mayo as well as friends and family members of patients at the hospital and clinic.
Plans to open the center inside Mayo have been in the works for about a year, said John Helgren, marketing and public relations manager with the Blood Alliance.
The Mayo donor center is part of a program by the Blood Alliance called the hospital partnership program, which is designed to increase donations at area hospitals by obtaining more donations from staff and friends and family of patients, Helgren said.
The donor center will be staffed by Blood Alliance personnel, and will be open five days a week with hours on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesday from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.; and Thursday from noon to 8 p.m.
The blood collected at Mayo will be used at Mayo and other area hospitals, Helgren said.
"Since the Blood Alliance is the sole provider of blood products to all area hospitals," Helgren said, "it's necessary we collect this blood in the community so we have it available for patients in our community."
