Canterbury is the home of the Prudence Crandall Museum who was a teacher that was imprisoned for establishing the first school in New England for Afro-American girls. It is also the birthplace of Moses Cleveland, the founder and namesake of the city of Cleveland, Ohio. Charles Rocket, a television and movie actor/comedian, lived in Canterbury at the time of his death.
