Camp Laguna - Yuma Proving Grounds - Military Installations on Waymarking.com

This is the location of Camp Laguna. The camp was in operation from April 1942 - April 1944. Camp Laguna was one of twelve camps used in the southwest desert to train troops for World War II. It may not look like it now, but this is the site for the 3rd & 9th Armored Divisions and the 79th Infantry Division. This is now an Historical Exhibit. There are many tanks and artillery pieces in place. You can walk around and touch the tanks and guns. At the back of the exhibit is a covered Kiosk that has pictures of the camp and stories of what it was like living and training in the desert in those days. Look south toward the mountains and close your eyes. You can see the men training, knowing that in a short period of time they would be giving their lives to save yours.
