Placed on Laguna Dam to warn boaters both up and down stream of large releases of water. Also used to notify residence of flooding situations. They would open the dam gates to clear material such as trees, tules and other debris from the gates. When the gates open, if your boat is not tied securely, down and through the dam it goes. I have seen the lake in front of the dam empty in ten minutes from ten feet deep to only one foot after the siren has sounded.
Siren is mounted on the east side of the dam at the top. It has a fresh coat of green paint, and is easily visible from any direction. Park along the road at Laguna Dam and walk through the passage way and across the dam; do not fall in. There are benches under a nearby tree, bring a lunch and enjoy the many birds in the area.
