This great viewing platform was actually built as a pedestrian bridge over the line coming out of the yard.

The old coaling tower is easily visible for the steam locomotives, from when this was part of the Pere Marquette Railroad (
visit link) . Also, in the distance, you see the multiple doors of the dis-used roundhouse.
According to articles found on-line, this yard is currently operated by CSX and there are approximately 8 trains per day originating here, for a total of about 300 cars.
