The trail leads down to the beach through a forest, emerging where Cedar Creek empties into the ocean. Seastacks lie just offshore, remnants that were once part of the mainland. Signs near the parking lot describe the area's shoreline geology. Have a tide table handy and don't walk past the narrow southern part of the beach when the tide is rising, or you'll get cut off.
A short trail leads down from the parking area and enters the beach area with a jumble of huge logs. Therefore, the beach is not really accessible for handicap, and small children will likely need help accessing the beach. Leash and scoop laws in effect. No bikes.
To get there from Olympia, take hwy 101 north; the sign for Ruby Beach is 8 miles north of the Kalaloch ranger station. Coming south on 101 around the Olympic Peninsula, the beach is about 20 miles south of Forks.
