Long Description:
The train station in Westfield was built around 1904 for the Lake
Shore and Michigan Southern Railroad. The architect is unknown, but
the style is based on the stations of the 1880s designed by H.H.
Richardson and his Richardson Romanesque style of architecture. The
station served as an important transfer station for travelers going
to the Chautauqua Institution. The Westfield stage linked the major
east/west line of the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railroad
with the Jamestown, Chautauqua, and Lake Erie Railroad, which was
the only rail line that went directly to the Institute.
