Dickerson Aggregates operates the 304th Street Quarry, a coquina rock mine, in Fort Drum. The material they mine is predominantly coquina rock. The term "coquina" is sometimes used interchangeably with limestone or limerock.
From the Dickerson Aggregates website:
Our 304th Street Mine is a roughly 400-acre property located in the Northeastern corner of Okeechobee County in Ft. Drum. The location began sales operations in October of 2006, receiving FDOT approval to supply Coquina Base Rock on October 24, 2006. The location is roughly 20 miles north of Okeechobee, 15 miles south of SR 60 (Yeehaw Junction) and 3 miles east of SR 441 on 304th Street.
The site sits on one of the oldest Anastasia Formations, which is processed into base rock. The operation also supplies a multitude of other materials including, common fill, shell rock, stabilizer, dredged sand, and topsoil. Additional materials are in process at this time.
Our operation is open Monday through Friday year round.
