Neptune is the outermost of the eight planets of our solar system and the fourth largest. A little known fact: Even before Pluto was demoted from planet to dwarf planet Neptune was the outermost planet. Because Pluto's orbit is so eccentric, it sometimes crosses the orbit of Neptune making Neptune the most distant planet from the Sun for a few years.
Neptune is named after the Roman God of the Seas. The connection to water makes this Roman god a preferred subject for fountains all over the world. One of the most beautiful Neptune fountains is the one in Berlin, Germany, built in 1888. Here, Lord Neptune thrones on a giant shell, surrounded by marine animals and adorned by four mermaids representing four of Germany’s main rivers.
