This mural, located at the Belvedere Center where tours can have a panoramic view of the dam, was initially created in November of 1998 and later restored in 2007 by Adoaldo Lenzi. The mural depicts the construction of the Itaipu hydroelectric dam as a tribue to the 100,000 workers, or barrageiros, who built this marvel of engineering.
Some images that you can see on the mural signify:
- The orignial landscape before digging of the dam.
- Digging of the dam, either the primary dam or the diversion canal.
- Blasting of the rock to allow water to flow into the dam.
- Installation of the turbines
- Water going down the spillway.
This was a very colorful and nice way to see the history of the construction of the dam.
