In 1964 an earthquake in Alaska caused a Tidal Wave or Tsunami to race up the canal..Port Alberni is at the end of the canal so we were flooded..No one was killed or hurt thank goodness...but a lot of peoples homes were flooded and the mills were also flooded..The town realized it could have been a lot worse and the warning system was installed...It is tested every Wed around 1 pm and those of us living in the low lying areas of town are realy glad it is there...Last year an earthquake again happened in Alaska and we were all warned by the sirens well ahead of time...thankfully there was no wave...but it was good practise to let us know how to evacuate and the time frame we would have to do so...Team Bushmaster...
