The Hunters Point Power Plant was built in 1929 and is one of the oldest in the state. For decades, the residents of the nearby low-income community have fought to get it removed because of toxic odors and chemicals. Finally in 2008, demolition of the plant is underway. The two quonset huts are auxiliary buildings on site and not connected to the plant itself.
