Frelighsburg has many ties to the States. The village was founded in the 1790s by Dr. Abraham Freligh of Albany, NY, and was settled largely by English Loyalists. During Prohibition, Frelighsburg had four taverns serving the brisk cross-border traffic (the village is a little over 3 miles from the US border at Richford, VT). Today, wineries and cideries are springing up in the area's rolling hills, and the New England architectural influence is still strong.
