According to "Haunted Highway - The Spirits of Route 66" by Ellen Robson and Dianne Halicki:

The Excalibur nightclub has a dark and tragic past. Two of Chicago's biggest disasters involve this popular club.

The first was during the great fire of 1871 when the building housed the Chicago Historical Society. The fire devaastated much of Chicago and hit this building as well. As members were exiting some may have turned back to escape the fire. If this is true, they may have perished inside. A new building was erected in its place and the society moved back in.

In 1915, the Eastland, a pleasure boat, capsized near the Clark Street bridge, taking the lives of nearly 900 people. Owners believe the Excalibur may have been used as a temorary morgue.

Both tragedies left spiritual energy that draws a clientele who are devotees of the occult and spiritualism.

Many people claim to have seen a woman in her forties wearing a red dress in a window and apparently showed up in a Polaroid. An elderly man has appeared behind the bar. The spirit of a little girl rounds out the trio. Her spirit is believed to come from the Easterland disaster along with the male spirit. they're insure of the woman's origin, she may be one of the women from the fire.

Employees can vouch for their activity, which includes rearranging beer cases in a manner that would have taken somone more earthly considerable time and the use of a twenty foot ladder, to a 400 pound statue found atop a stack of chairs, to candles relighting themselves.

The Dome Room has the most activity. It has domed ceiling that measures 30 feet in height. One day an employee found a teddy bear up on the edge of the rim. Upon return with a coworker it was found on the bar.

Crying, howling, lights turning off and on by themselves are also claimed to occur. Oh, and the alarm system's motion detectors constantly have havoc wreaked upon them as well.
