The plate is mounted on a modern, brick pillar on top of this hill.

Daventry District Council list the following information about the hill: 'In 1999 Countryside Services were given stewardship of Cracks Hill. The hill is situated between the villages of Crick and Yelvertoft. Crack's hill was created during the last ice age when melt water deposited material underneath the ice.

Once the ice sheet retreated it left this pile of silt and rock behind, the hill is properly called a moraine. Worked flints from the Neolithic period have been found on the hill. It has also been rumoured that the Romans used the hill as a sentry point.

Countryside Services manage the site in partnership with the "Friends of Crack's Hill". Countryside services meet once a month with the "Friends" group, these meetings inform the management of the hill. Countryside Services has gained monies from Defra to restore the hedgerows on the hill, and set up a grazing system This system of management has proved very popular, indicated by the well-attended monthly meetings and the success of public events, such as the lighting of the beacon, organised by Countryside Services and the "Friends" group.'

The Orientation Table has etched churches from the nearby towns and directions and distances to them and the surrounding major towns.
