In 1743, Thomas Moore got the bright idea to open a bar and serve beer and whiskey. The town must have thought it was a good idea too as eventually, Moorestown was named after him.

The historical marker can be found at the intersection of Union & West Main Streets. There is no mention of this once prominent tavern anywhere on the internet.

Marker text: Built by Thomas Moore in 1734 it was the towns first tavern. It was a two story frame building with two rooms on each floor. The building was demolished in 1878.
The town of Moorestown derived its name from Thomas Moore who died July 30th 1760.
