This bell is an exact replica of the liberty bell that hangs in Philadelphia ,PA. This replica was made in the same foundry that made the original.
It was presented to the City of Marietta on July 4, 1976 by the Marietta Jaycees as part of the bicentennial celebration. It was rung 13 times that day in tribute to the original 13 colonies that formed the United States of America.
Each July 4 since it has been rung the same 13 times.
The park that surrounds this replica is a meeting place for casual repose and at times formal events such as weddings are held here. There numerous statues and memorials that dot this park and surrounding area. The atmosphere is always relaxed and usually peaceful here with many scheduled and unscheduled events almost daily. All in all it is a wonderful place to visit.
As a side note there is a plaque that lists all the people who were contributors to the building of this park and interestingly enough to me the fourth names on the list are Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward.
